11 firms to take part in tourism fair in Italy

At least 11 tourism firms from Zanzibar and the Mainland have confirmed that they will attend the International Tourism Exchange Fair in Italy as part of marketing Tanzania as a tourist destination.
The Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) services manager, Serena Shao told `The Guardian` yesterday that the exhibition would take place at Fieramilano-New Rho Trade Fair from February 21 to 24, this year.
The event would bring together around 150,000 visitors out of whom over 40 per cent would be professionals in tourism trade.
``We have decided to attend the exhibition in Italy because the country is the third in terms of the countries that bring tourists to Tanzania, followed by the United Kingdom and North America.
Right now the tourism sector in Tanzania has great potentials for growth that would enable it compete in the world tourism markets more profitably, `` she said.
In 2006 Tanzania received 644,124 tourists from different countries and among them 69,160 came from the United Kingdom, 68, 877 from North America, while 50,287 came from Italy.
She mentioned firms that will take part in the fair as Lillac Adventures and Safaris, Cordial Tours and Travel Ltd, Easy Travel and Tours Ltd and Coastal Travels.
Others are Ocean Paradise Resort, High Peaks Expeditions and Bobby Tours and Safaris.
Others would include Tanzania National Parks, Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority and Zanzibar Commission for Tourism.
She said she would lead the delegation with support from the Tanzanian envoy in Italy.
According to Shao, participants would leave today.
Tanzania is taking part in the fair for the 28th time.
The exhibition would endeavour among other things to promote Tanzania as a tourist destination to the international stakeholders and to attract them to see what ``we have``, she said.
``We intend to promote Tanzania as a tourist destination through dissemination of information on the products and services.
We further intend to expose new products, facilities, reassuring the travel industry of Tanzania`s state of its tourism, direct selling by tourism services operators and handling enquiries,`` she said.
Meanwhile participants have been told to make their own arrangements for accommodation and transfers while in Milan.
M/s Exports in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce and Fiera Milano are the main organisers of the exhibition.
