An investigative team on payments made from the External Payment Account (EPA) has traced the concerned individuals and recovered some of the money.
A press statement issued in Dar es Salaam yesterday by the Investigative Team assured the wananchi that it was still making efforts to trace assets which had been acquired by using money that was paid from the EPA.
``The team has already traced the concerned individuals wherever they are within and outside the country. We would like to assure all the people that the work is progressing well,`` read the statement in part.
The team further said they were still following up information they received, adding: ``The information received has proved to be extremely useful and of great assistance.``
According to the statement, the primary duty of the committee has been following up persons and companies involved for the purpose of determining the legality or otherwise of each and every payment.
Membership of the EPA presidential probe team is drawn from the Attorney General’s Office, Inspector General of Police and the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau.
The team is set to recover 133bn/- that was embezzled at the Central Bank in the year 2005.
