By Amri Lugungulo, PST, Kisarawe

The Tanzania Social Action Fund (TASAF) has granted 55m/- to Kidugalo and Vihingo villages in Kisarawe District, Coast Region, for construction of dispensaries.

Its accountant in the district, Mohamed Hamisi, told PST on Thursday that Kidugalo was allotted 27,985,430/- while Vihingo got 27,785,430/-.

Elaborating, he said the two villages also contributed a total of 16,370,000/- whereby each raised 8,185,000/- towards the projects.

He also remarked that the funds had been disbursed to the villages since January 25, this year after the villagers had made known their plans towards construction of the dispensaries.

``This week we are going to meet the responsible committees for construction of the dispensaries in the villages and brief them on the best mode of supervising completion of the projects successfully,`` he said.

He also asked the respective villagers to expedite completion of the projects by engaging in other voluntary chores such as supplying of water, sand, stones, bricks making and extending the necessary help to the masons in order to avert expenses involved in the process.

According to him, the villagers usually walked more than10kms to access health services as facilities for the same were not available in the villages.

``It is a common phenomenon for women to deliver in the bush while on the way to the nearby health centres, particularly during the night,`` he said.
