President Jakaya Kikwete has described US President George Bush`s recent state visit as unique in the country`s history that has earned Tanzania credit before the eyes of the international community.
In his traditional end-of-the month address to the nation yesterday, Kikwete thanked Tanzanians and different institutions for a well-organized reception they accorded to Bush and his delegation.
Bush, who was on a six day Africa tour, spent four days in Tanzania before he left for Rwanda, Ghana and Liberia.
``Our guests left the country with an impressive picture of our country and Tanzanians,`` said Kikwete, hailing the country`s media for the extensive coverage of various activities during Bush`s visit.
The President appreciated the US leader`s determination to fast-track development in Africa, including Tanzania, in the areas of HIV/AIDS prevention, health and education.
On political turmoil in Kenya, President Kikwete said Tanzania was happy with the signing of a political deal between Mwai Kibaki and opposition leader Raila Odinga, which resolved deadlocked talks and ended post-election crisis.
``This is a good lesson for us. We should shun religious differences, tribalism, and other such elements that may plunge our country into chaos. What happened in Kenya should serve as a lesson. We must fight all elements of hatred, tribalism and other factors that might fuel political crisis in Tanzania,`` he said.
