A sixth person was on Friday joined with five others accused, who are charged with conspiracy, assault and pouring acid on two `Mwanahalisi` and `Mseto` journalists.
Frednard Mwenda, a businessperson based in Dar es Salaam was joined with others before Principal Resident Magistrate Eddy Lyamuya of Kisutu Resident Magistrate Court.
The court granted bail to the six, but surprisingly the accused failed to meet the conditions.
This was after Assistant Commissioner of Police Charles Kenyella had told the court that the sixth accused had been arrested and hence asked the court to join him with the others.
He also said that the court no longer opposed the accused bail so long as they were able to meet the conditions. It therefore asked them to bring forth three sureties who ``are government employees.``
But untill `The Guardian` was leaving the court premises around 1pm on Friday, the accused had not presented any surety.
In the main case, the accused are businessman Alex Anyimike Mwandemele famously known as Chusa (28) who resides at Kigogo Luhanga, Hashimu Mdoe also known as Madilu (32), a taxi driver who resides at Tegeta Nyaishozi.
Other accused are businessman Augustino Joseph famously known as Cheusi (30) and Hamisi Almas Ramadhani (25), a welder all of whom live in Mwanayamala and Alfred Moshi, famously known as Chambya (64), an electrician who resides in Kinondoni.
It is alleged that between December 25, last year and on January 5, this year in Dar es Salaam the accused did conspire to harm the editor of Mwanahalisi newspaper, Saed Kubenea.
In the second count, it was alleged that on January 5, this year at Mwanahalisi and Mseto newspaper offices situated at Kasaba Street in Kinondoni District, within the city, the accused did unlawfully pour acid on the face of Kubenea and caused him tremendous injury.
In the third count, it was alleged that on the same date and place, the accused did unlawfully assault Kubenea on his check with a sword, causing him injury.
And that on the same date and place, they also assaulted Ndimara Tegambwage on the back of his head with a sword.
The case was adjourned to March 14, this year.
