Two former police constables and two other people yesterday appeared before a Dar es Salaam court charged with the murder of the driver of immediate former Public Safety and Security deputy minister Mohamed Aboud Mohamed.

The former constables are Idd Fuso from the Central Police Station and Mathias Emmanuel from Msimbazi Police Station, both in the city.

They appeared before the Kisutu Resident Magistrate`s Court alongside businessmen Anderson Maloloso and Ernest Augustino who, jointly with the duo, are also facing robbery with violence charges.

Prosecutor Charles Kenyella told the court that the accused murdered driver Tumaini Gabriel Mbaga on January 20 this year at Kiembe Kingazi Kipera in Dar es Salaam. He added that investigations into the case were continuing.

The accused were not allowed to enter any plea as the court has no jurisdiction to hear murder cases. Under Tanzanian law, murder cases are not bailable, so the accused were committed to remand prison until March 18.

Mbaga was driving the deputy minister`s car when he disappeared, the vehicle being later found parked at a CCM office at Tabata.

His decomposed body was discovered on the outskirts of the city some days after he was reported missing.

Mohamed is now deputy minister of East African Cooperation following the recent dissolution and subsequent overhaul of the cabinet.

On armed robbery charges, Kenyella said the two constables, who had already been sacked from the Police Force, stole 1,280,000/- from a Dar es Salaam resident after they assaulted him on February 19 this year.

The two businessmen are, meanwhile, alleged to have stolen a saloon car worth 4.8m/- on January 9 this year after setting upon its owner.

They denied the armed robbery charge and are due to appear in court again on March 18 this year.
