11 guards arraigned over theft of property worth 117 million/-

Ten Dar es Salaam residents have been brought to Kinondoni Resident Magistrate`s Court where they were charged with three counts, including stealing properties of SDV Ami Company worth a total of 114,727,000/-.

The accused, who include nine Ultimate Security Guards and a warehouse manager, were also charged with conspiracy to commit an offence and neglect to prevent an offence.

The prosecution named the accused as Dominic Albert de Souza (40), Philipo Kabasa (26), Moshi BIllingi (51) and Issack Mbwambo (26).

Others are Charles Jonas (32), Msengi Jeremi (29), Joseph Salu (27), Josphat Sonoro (28) and Emmanuel Kalabwe(25). They appeared before Resident Magistrate Hilda Mawalla.

Inspector of Police Bennet Kipasika told the court that the accused did conspire to break into the company\'s building on an unknown date and place in February this year before they committed the offence.

In the second count, the accused were jointly charged with stealing 2,441 mobile phones valued at 114, 727,000/-, being the property of SDV Ami Company.

The offence was allegedly committed during day time at Mabibo SDV Ami Company on February 28, this year.

In the third count, the prosecution claimed that the accused were arraigned for neglect to prevent the commission of the crime having failed to use all reasonable means at their disposal to prevent it.

It was claimed that the offence was committed on the same date and place. However, the accused pleaded not guilty.
The accused were returned to remand custody after failing to meet bail conditions.

The court had required each of the accused to bring two reliable sureties and each to sign a 5m/- bond.

The magistrate slated the case for another mention on March 21, this year.

Meanwhile, a Security Group Company guard was yesterday arraigned in the same court for allegedly stealing properties worth 2.4m/-.

The accused appeared before Resident Magistrate Arnold Kileo whereby Inspector of Police Arnold Kilongo alleged that the accused did steal 13 metres of copper wire valued at 2.4m/-, the property of SDV Ami Company.

He said the offence was committed at Mabibo in Kinondoni District within the city on February 20, this year.

The accused denied the charge and was returned to remand custody after failing to meet bail conditions.

Earlier, the court had ordered the accused to present two sureties and each to sign a 800,000/- bond. The case is due to resume on March 20, this year.
