The Palestine Ambassador to Tanzania, Yousef Habbab, has called on President Jakaya Kikwete to use his capacity as chairman of the African Union to intervene and help end Israeli attacks on innocent people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank in Palestine-occupied territories.
Habbab issued the appeal recently in Dar es Salaam in response to recent developments in the Middle East in which Israel forces brutally murdered 170 people in Gaza.
He said the recent intervention by Kikwete in Kenya to solve the political impasse there had made Tanzania one of the countries to be sought for mediation in the region and beyond.
``President Kikwete should now use that experience to intervene and resolve the Middle East crisis once and for all that has taken many years and so many lives and property have been lost,`` Habbab said.
He added that the United Nations Security Council and the entire international community had proved powerless to solve the Israel-Palestine conflict for decades.
He said Africa should not stand by as a mere spectator watching innocent lives being lost and the homes of Palestinian mothers and children being demolished by Israel soldiers who do not care for the dignity of
human life.
He said the world should stand up and condemn what he described as ``genocide`` being committed by Israeli forces and bring to justice all those responsible.
He warned that failure by the international community to take action against Israel would lead to more bloodshed in the entire Middle East region and radicalism against Israel and its backers, the United States of America and Western countries.
``Israel does not adhere to democracy, the rule of law, human rights and dignity for human life. However, it is not above the law,`` Habbab said.
He said the resistance by the people of Palestine would continue until victory is achieved.
He said the killings had infuriated many people in the Arab world, in Israel itself, in Europe and America where hundreds of people had demonstrated in support of the Palestinian people.
He said that was a clear sign that people were not happy to see their fellow human beings being killed brutally by Israeli tanks, rockets and aircraft bombers which come from the US.
He said the Palestinian people want peace and all efforts to resolve the conflict should be directed at reaching that end.
