Police in Dar es Salaam have arrested two secondary students for allegedly attempting to steal a car.

Talking to reporters yesterday, Acting Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander Liberatus Barlow said the incident occurred at Kinyerezi Transformer on Monday.

Barlow named the suspects as Hafidhi Msuya (18), a form three student of Mbezi Academy International School and Moris Awiji (18), also a form three student at Dar es Salaam Independent School.

Barlow said on the material day, the two students hired a taxi.

On their way, they tied the driver with a rope and stabbed him on the nose to force him to surrender the ignition key.

He said a security guard who witnessed the incident heard the driver screaming for help.

When he went closer, the two students got out of the car and ran away.

Barlow said the security guard cried for help and the wananchi gave a chase and managed to nab Msuya who, after a thorough interrogation, named his accomplice.

Barlow said Hafidhi was caught with the drivers` mobile phone.

He said the duo would be taken to court next week.
