About 700 people have been medically examined and found with heart complications but have no money to finance their treatment.

Dr. Rajni Kanabar, convenor of the Lions Club of Dar es Salaam (Host), called on Tanzanians to come out and contribute money for the treatment of the poor heart patients.

``These patients can be treated and resume normal life if there are people who would volunteer to support and enable them undergo heart surgery.

The problem had been persisting amongst most of poor men and women because of financial constraints,`` said Kanabar.

He said members of the Lions Club of Dar es Salaam (Host) had been sensitising and mobilising people to donate funds in supporting the needy currently suffering from heart problems.

``It`s high time Tanzanians cultivated a culture of giving to poor and vulnerable social groups generally. Giving is really a blessing to the Almighty God.

If 38 million people would contribute just one US dollar each, we would collect 38m/-, which is enough to save the lives of these 700 heart patients,`` he said.

With assistance of his parents, he said, a six-month infant, Aryan Kanabar, had showed an example and donated USD 625 to support the respective heart patients who had recently gone to India for operations.

According to the official, the patients were taken to the India-based Narayana Hrudayalaya hospital for treatment.

The hospital, which is located in Bangalore, has the capacity to operate on 25 heart patients daily. In most cases, heart patients undergoing treatment at the hospital resume normal life.
