School fees are one of the main challenges facing orphans attending different secondary schools in the country. The remarks were made by Yatima Group Trust Fund chairperson Winfred Lubanza when receiving Easter gifts from Blue Financial Services management on Thursday at Mbagala Chamazi, on the outskirts of Dar es Salaam.

She said many orphans lacked school fees, a situation which affect their learning because they were often chased out of school for lack of fees.

Her own centre, with more than 130 orphans, has not managed to pay school fees for 62 students attending different secondary schools in the country, she said.

``As I am speaking I have not paid a single cent for these children because I do not have the money,`` she said.

The centre has 78 students in secondary schools and the rest are still in primary school.

She said her centre was planning to start income-generating projects in order to help the needy children better.

Blue Financial Services assistant country director Stoffel Swanepoel said the society was obliged to take care of the children, especially orphans.

``We shall sit as a team and evaluate the problems these children are facing and, if need be, we will assist.

But to start with, we have committed ourselves to providing food monthly to the centre,`` he said.
