Dar students` mob allegedly murder suspected thief

A mob of students at the Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial College is alleged to have killed an unidentified man aged between 30 and 35 who had allegedly stormed into their premises where he stole a mobile phone and an iron box.

Temeke Regional Acting Police Commander Rukia Simbakalila told reporters in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the incident occurred on March 20, this year at the college.

She said that students who killed the man were yet to be identified adding that the stolen properties were worth 172,000/-.

Commander Simbakalila said the body of the deceased was preserved at Temeke Hospital mortuary and the police were still investigating the students who were involved in the assault and murder in order to nab them.

In another incident, two people escaped deaths after a house they were living in was razed down to ashes after the gas cooker they were lighting erupted into a huge fire.

According to Simbakalila, the incident occurred on Thursday at Magomeni, within the city.

``The owner of the house is known as Abdalah Maukwe and the injured persons are Ally Hamisi (19) and Salehe Rajabu (20),`` she said.

All the casualties were admitted to Mwanyamala Hospital for treatment.

Simbakalila said that the house had two tenants, whom she named as Hassan Mawa, a retired TPDF officer and Aisha Ally.

The police said the value of the property destroyed by the fire that was eventually put out by the fire brigade, was yet to be established.

In yet another incident, a fire erupted at a store owned by the Christian Literature Crusade Tanzania Ltd and destroyed Bible books worth 2m/-.

Ilala Regional Police Commander Masindoki Masindoki said the incident occurred on March 20, this year at Mkwepu Street, NHC building block 70416 within the city.

He said that the fire was caused by electrical fault.
