Three former police officers were yesterday arraigned in the Kinondoni District Court in Dar es Salaam charged with robbery with violence.

The accused, Ibrahim Ismael (28), Paul Juma (38) and Ramadhan Juma (29) appeared before Principal Resident Magistrate Hamisa Kalombola.

On the first count, Assistant Inspector Benedict Nyagabona told the court that the trio conspired to commit armed robbery on an unknown date and place in the city.

On the second, he said the accused stole 500,000/- in cash and a mobile phone valued at 60,000/-, the property of a Japanese student, Yuko Oshima.

He further alleged that in the course of the robbery, which took place at Manzese Darajani in the city on March 18, this year, the accused threatened Oshima with a firearm.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and were returned to remand custody after failing to meet set bail conditions.
The case comes up again on April 8, this year.

Meanwhile, one Godfery Kapingu (32), a resident of Kimara on the outskirts of the city, appeared in the same court charged with obtaining money by false pretence. The accused appeared before Resident Magistrate Lina Msanga.

Inspector of Police Thomas Mtikatika told the court that, with intent to defraud, the accused obtained 750,000/- in cash from Ashura Omary pretending that he had powers to make her rich by multiplying the stated amount to 50m/-, which he knew to be untrue.

The incident was allegedly committed at Kimara Matangini in the city on February 15, this year.

The accused pleaded not guilty and was bailed after meeting bail conditions.

The court had required two reliable workers as surety who would sign a 200,000/- bond each. The case was adjourned to April 7, this year.
