The newly-appointed Small Industries Development Organisation (Sido) Board of Directors has been called upon to chart out plans to accelerate fast-development of small industries in the country.

Speaking during the inauguration of the organ, Sido Board Chairman Japhet Mlagala said the new board would help to improve efficiency and general performance of Sido in the promotion of the country`s small industries.

He said searching for reliable sources of markets for products manufactured by local small firms would be one of the crucial areas for the new Sido board to work on.

On the list of Sido Board members include Dr Florensi Turuki from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Marketing; Dr Ali Mwinyimvua from the State House; Dr Sebastian from Masaki-CRDB Bank; Flora Rutabanzibwa from BoT; Estherine Kilasi, who is also the Member of Parliament for Mbalali Constituency and Ruth Msafiri, Muleba-North MP.

The chairman pledged to ensure effective utilisation of organisation`s assets, financial and human resources, and existing technologies and systems for effective and successful implementation of small industries` development strategies.

The board also promised to develop procedures and practices to control the organisation`s assets including monitoring and assessing implementation of its strategies, policies and management performance.

``I congratulate you all on your appointment. I look forward to receiving your support, cordial and productive relationship in the board. We have to assist Sido to execute its duties, responsibilities and functions,`` he told the board members.

The chairman appealed for massive financial support from donor community, government, and private sector to enhance realisation of Sido`s short-term, medium-term and long-term development strategies.

The assistance would help the organisation undertake its various development activities and implement its technological and capacity building programmes, he said.

``Please, assist Sido to face the challenges before it and achieve the set objectives—that’s setting framework to provide economic opportunities for SMEs development in the country,`` he appealed.

Despite its economic potentials and resource endowment, Tanzania is still rated as a least developed country, as it has not sufficiently exploited them for the benefit of its citizens.
