Bill on human trafficking for tabling in House this month

By Felister Peter

The government is expecting to table a bill on human traffiking, to prohibit the illegal trade which appears to be on the increase in the country, during this month`s parliamentary session.

The draft bill was presented yesterday in Dar es Salaam before the Parliamentary Committee on Home Affairs, Security and Safety which is under the chairmanship of Wilson Masilingi (CCM), the MP for Muleba constituency in Kagera Region.

Elaborating on the bill on behalf of Home Affairs minister, his Deputy Khamis Kagasheki, said the bill seeks to prohibit human trafficking which has been increasing each year.

Kagasheki said that in Tanzania, the illegal business is conducted through different ways including cheating, seducing and use of force.

All these, he said, are done by a group of few dishonest people, who aim to benefit through selling the subjects within and outside the country.

He said the bill will help to strengthen control of an international illegal network and provide the chance for the international Community to exchange information with Tanzania on people conducting the business.

``The bill once passed would help shape other laws to comply with it, and will also save Tanzanians living abroad from being tortured and sometimes working like slaves without payments or get meagre salary which is against human rights,`` he noted.
