Opposition Civic United Front plans to stage a peaceful demonstration this Saturday in the Isles as one way of putting presesure to the government to implement the accord, which among other things, stipulates the need to establish a coalition government in Zanzibar.

The two parties agreed to form a coalition government in Zanzibar, the proposal which the recent CCM-National Executive Committee meeting at Butiama Village, Mara Region declared that it should be preceeded by a referendum.

CUF\'s move was announced yesterday in Dar es Salaam by its Chairman Prof Ibrahim Lipumba when he addressed party members and supporters.

He said the demonstration is scheduled to take place in Zanzibar on Saturday, but would not give details on the modalities on the demo.

CUF wants an outright implementation of the recently agreed peace terms on power-sharing cum 2010 general election between CCM and CUF.

CCM-NEC decided to bring the coalition government idea to the people of Zanzibar, the move party leaders say would give them the opportunity to air their views on the matter.

The peace accord signed in October 2001, called for political reforms that would enable the striking of a power balance between the two major parties in the isles--ruling CCM and main opposition CUF.
