Kapuya commends Vodacom for its job creation drive

The Minister for Labour, Employment and Youth Development, Prof. Juma Kapuya has commended the mobile phone operator, Vodacom Tanzania Ltd, for creating jobs in the country.
He said in extending ``Simu ya Watu`` trolleys in the country, the company was creating more employment for the youth and at the same time contributing towards poverty reduction.
Prof Kapuya commended the company at a function to hand over 50 trolleys to shoe shine youths.
In a statement issued by Vodacom, Prof Kapuya reportedly said he was encouraged that the mobile phone operator would extend similar services to rural areas, because it would speed-up development for many Tanzanians.
He said since the majority of the workforce was in rural areas, expanding services to as far as that reach would most likely lead to growth of the national income.
``I commend Vodacom Tanzania Ltd for its efforts in improving the living standards of the people in the country and wish you all the best in your dedication towads job creation,`` he said.
Dodoma Regional Commissioner, William Lukuvi, commended the mobile phone operator for donating trolleys of ``Simu ya Watu`` in his region.
He said the gesture was war against poverty in the region and the country as a whole. Lukuvi urged other companies to emulate Vodacom`s example to help win war against poverty.
For his part, Vodacom Managing Director Dietof Mare, told the Minister that ``Simu ya Watu`` trolleys were designed for use by small and medium scale entrepreneurs.
``The entrepreneurs can sell Vodafasta vouchers and facilitate inexpensive phone calls to people in and around Tanzania,`` he said.
He said his company had already distributed trolleys in Mwanza, Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, Mbeya and Morogoro regions.
