The University of Dar es Salaam`s Student Representative Council has supported a move taken by the university`s management to suspend and hand over to the police their fellow students who allegedly involved themselves in criminal acts in February, this year.

Speaking to `The Guardian` in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Dar es Salaam University Students Organization (Daruso) president Deo Daudi said his cabinet had basically no problem with the punishment meted out.

He said the 24 students were penalised after abusing university by-laws, hence Daruso supported the move.

He said they didn`t see any reason to back the students because they trusted the university council committee that carried out investigations into the riotous activities at Mabibo Hostel and the Main Campus in February.

Deo said it was upon the suspended students themselves to prove to the court whether they were guilty or not.
``We always stand to defend students, but in this matter we are not going to do so.

They committed criminal acts; they must face justice,``said the president
Yesterday the university management announced, suspension of 24 students allegedly for smoking marijuana and engineering riotous activities at Mabibo Hostel and at the main campus last February.
The suspended students were also accused of breaching the university`s regulations.
