Taifa Stars assemble for Uganda Cranes tie

The national soccer team, Taifa Stars, start residential training camp today to prepare for the newly-introduced African Cup of Nations meant for domestic players against Uganda Cranes of Uganda.

A source within the team said yesterday that 20 players, who were last week named by Coach Marcio Maximo to form the team, will assemble at Karume Memorial Stadium in Dar es Salaam ready to start preparation for the first leg match set for May 3 at CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza.

``The team will train in Dar es Salaam for five days before leaving for Mwanza on Thursday where the game will be played,`` the source said.

Stars players who form the team are Farouk Ramadhan, Shaaban Dihile, Fred Mbuna, Kevin Yondan and Nadir Haroub `Canavaro`.

Others are Salum Sued, Juma Jabu, Amir Maftah and Stephano Mwasika.

There are Henry Joseph, Shaaban Nditi, Athuman Idd, Godfrey Boniface, Ulimboka Mwakingwe, Uhuru Selemani, Abdi Kassim, Emmanuel Gabriel, Mrisho Ngasa, Jerry Tegete and Kigi Makasi.

The Cranes will arrive in Mwanza on Thursday aboard a PrecisionAir flight.

Taifa Stars eliminated Harambee Stars in the preliminary while The Cranes outclassed Eritrea.

Stars-Crane match will be officiated by Somalia referee Hussein Omary assisted by Hassan Fodo and Omary Abukar also from Somalia.

Fans will have to pay 20,000/- each to watch the match at VIP stand while popular stand will be charged at 3000/- each.
