Dar elder arraigned over shopbreaking...

An elderly person and resident of Mbagala in Dar es Salaam Region, George Paul, on Friday appeared before Resident Magistrate Janeth Kinyange at Ilala District Court over shop breaking and stealing.

Assistant Inspector of police Denis Mujumba alleged that the accused committed the offence on April 15, this year at the junction of Swahili and Nyati Streets in Kariakoo area within Ilala District.

It was alleged that on the material day, the accused did break and enter into the shop of one Anwer Juma where he stole different kinds of tyres worth 5m/- and batteries of 1m/-, all the property of Anwer Juma.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody for lack of surety. The case is due for another mention on May 8, this year.

Meanwhile, in the same court and before Resident Magistrate Samwel Maweda, driver Hussein Rulindwa (46), who resides in Karikoo, was charged with driving a motor vehicle recklessly on a public road.

Assistant Inspector of Police Musa Gumbo alleged that the accused committed the offence on April 17, this year along Ally Hassan Mwinyi Road, near Tanganyika Motors BP petrol station.

It was further alleged that on the material day, the accused being a driver and in-charge of motor vehicle number T 113 APG, Ford Everest make, did drive on the public road recklessly and failed to take proper precautions over other cars before making a right turn.

He continued to allege that because of the recklessness, he collided with another motor vehicle with Registration number T 610 AQU, Suzuki Escudo make.

In the process, he went on to allege, his motor vehicle was swept and knocked another car with registration number T134 ABY, Nissan Datsun make, causing damage to all the vehicles.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and is out on bail.

The case is scheduled for another mention on May 8, this year.

In yet another incident, five people, residents of Kitunda in the city, appeared in the same court before the same resident magistrate charged with unlawful possession of narcotic drugs.

Assistant Inspector of Police Musa Gumbo named the accused as driver Joseph Chuma (37), Sultan Shaban (33), businessman Ramadhani Maigwa (28), Peter Lukupilika (18), and Abdallah Rashid (26).

It was alleged that the accused committed the offence on April 15, this year at Kitunda within Ilala district where they were found by police officer Tesha, with 400 grams of bhang.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and were remanded in custody for lack of surety.

The magistrate adjourned the case for mention to May 12, this year.
