Local athletes delay as races takes off today

Tanzania national team was last night expected to arrive here ready for the 16th Africa Athletics Championships which start at the National Stadium today.

The team was expected to arrive with a contingent of 15 athletes aboard an Ethiopia Airlines in the event which would attract more than 40 African countries.

Some of the athletes who were expected to arrive are Fabian Joseph, Ezekiel Japhary, Hamis Mkadamu, Muhdin Yassin, Marko Joseph, Kulwa Rushenga, Anold Longung’a, and Faustine Mussa.

Others are Makame Ally, Natalia Joseph, Damian Chopa, Sara Ramadhani, Janeth John and Fabiola William.

Kenya, Djibouti, Senegal, Uganda, Nigeria, Morocco and Seychelles had already arrived ready to compete in the Samsung-sponsored event.

Kenya came with 40 athletes including world top runners such as Abel Kiprop (1500m), Lucy Kabuu (10,000m) and Lilly Komen (3, 000m), to mention but a few.

The Ugandan team has Emily Nanziri (400m), Simon Ayeko (1500m), Waisswa Lukungu (400m), Justine Bayiga (800m), Jimmy Adar (800m), Annet Kabansindi and Patrick Kibwota (javelin).
