Police in Kilimanjaro Region are looking for Gastory Mlay, a resident of Majengo suburb, on suspicion of killing his wife by hacking her neck with a handsaw.
Kilimanjaro Regional Police Commander Lucas Ng`hoboko told journalists yesterday that the incident occurred on Friday following a protracted misunderstanding between the couple in which neighbours were reportedly forced to periodically reconcile them in vain.
He mentioned the killed woman, who was an office attendant with Stanbic Bank branch in Moshi municipality, as Rose Massawe (24).
Ng`hoboko said on May 1, this year, in the evening, the couple were reportedly engaged in a prolonged commotion which caused their landlady, Grace Njau, to enquire what was going on.
``As the couple allowed their landlady to enter their room, some reconciliation seemed to have been struck after an extended discussion, which resulted in Njau leaving them in peace,`` said the regional police chief.
He added that in the morning, after the landlady had not seen the couple for a long time, she knocked on their door - to no avail.
He added: ``After knocking on the door for some minutes, she decided to enter the room where she met the dead body of Massawe on the bed which was splattered in blood, and on close observation she noted that it bore a deep would around the neck.``
Ng`hoboko said the landlady reported the matter to the police, who arrived at the scene and collected the body, and preliminary inquiry showed that the woman had her neck hacked with a handsaw.
He said after the gruesome killing, the husband ran away and was being sought by the police.
