Tanzania will send five runners in the Rwanda Marathon set for May 11.
Athletics Tanzania (AT) Secretary-General Selemani Nyambui said yesterday the athletes would leave for Kigali a day before the race.
He named them as Rebeca Kavina from Prisons, Fabiola William, Oswald Leverian, Sarah Majah and Flora Kagali all from Police.
Nyambui said the race would be expected to be very competitive as it would attract top African runners from Ethiopia and Kenya.
In another development, Nyambui claimed that the poor performance of Tanzania in the just ended African Athletics Championship in Ethiopia was caused by poor preparation and lack of money.
Janet John and Sarah Ramadhani finished fifth and sixth respectively in 10,000m.
The two were among four Tanzanians who turned up for the continental championships. Janeth clocked 35:32.60 while Sarah used 36:06.03 in the race which was dominated by the hosts.
Janeth said she was very happy with the result because that was not her race. He was supposed to compete in 5,000m but she was forced to go for 10,000m after arriving late in Addis Ababa.
They said their poor performance was caused by AT which failed to prepare them well.
Ethiopian Tirunesh Dibaba won the race after running for 32:49.08 followed by her country-mates Ejegayehu Dibaba (32:50.36) and Ayalew Wude (32:55.17).
