University of Dar es Salaam has called back students it suspended last month. The over 300 students are expected to resume classes immediately, while the matter is still being worked out by relevant organs.

A statement issued in Dar es Salaam yesterday by deputy vice-chancellor Yunus Mgaya said that the suspension had been lifted with immediate effect so as to allow the students to sit for forthcoming examinations scheduled to start on Monday.

``As (investigation) processes will take some time to be completed, all affected students are required to resume classes so that they may sit for examinations,`` read the statement in part.

It also said that their suspension had been lifted by his office under powers granted by the UDSM charter.

Mid last month, the university administration suspended some undergraduate students for allegedly smoking marijuana and engineering riotous activities at the university`s off-campus Mabibo Hostel.

The strike caused chaos at the main campus and was followed by expulsion.
