14 teams ready for regional handball tourney

Fourteen teams from 10 countries have confirmed to compete in the East and Central Africa Handball Championship to be staged in Mwanza in August.
The Tanzania Handball Association (Taha) Secretary-General, Sudi Omari, said yesterday that the body had received confirmation letters from the teams as the local organizer.
He named the countries which the teams would come from as Sudan, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Zanzibar and hosts Tanzania Mainland.
He appealed for local firms to sponsor to turn up and sponsor the event, adding that some of them had already shown the interest of sponsoring it.
He appealed for local teams to prepare well so that the titles remain at home.
Heritage of DRC won the men`s title last year in the event which was staged at the Indoor Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
