Uganda`s Cranes` captain Simeon Masaba hopes to be available for Uganda`s crunch Africa Championship qualifier against Taifa Stars on Saturday despite suffering a severe shin injury last week.

The SC Villa all-around damaged tissue on his right leg after a collusion with KCC midfielder Patrick Ssenfuka during Friday`s goalless derby between the two traditional giants.

Despite being excluded from Villa’s weekend engagement against Simba, Masaba reported improvement in his condition yesterday.

``I can at least finally walk. I couldn’t a few days ago. I hope to continue with my rehabilitation and be fit for the game,`` he said.

Masaba is an integral figure in coach Laszlo Csaba`s local championship and 2010 World Cup qualifying squads.

He will join the Cranes side that regrouped on Sunday for residential training, and later be assessed by the medical team before a decision is taken on whether or not he can train tomorrow.

Cranes need to plunder a 3-0 win over Tanzania`s Taifa Stars to progress to the ultimate stage of the inaugural tournament`s qualifiers, where they could meet either Sudan or Rwanda.
