Uganda and Burundi will set the East Africa Defence Forces, Culture and Sports competition in motion with a soccer match at Nakivubo Stadium on June 24.

The competition, due to end on July 3, will also feature handball, netball, boxing and a cross-country event.

Action will also be at Namboole, Lugogo and Bombo grounds.

According to a programme released by the UPDF director of sports, Godfrey Muwanguzi on Monday, weighing-in for boxers takes place at Lugogo on June 25, before action starts on Tuesday.

Rwanda and Burundi will take part in the games for the first time after being admitted to the East African Community. Others are Kenya, Tanzania and hosts Uganda.

Tanzania won the 2007 edition in Dar-es-Salaam, with Uganda finishing second.

Foreign teams are expected to start arriving on June 20. UPDF will meet all the local costs for the event aimed at promoting solidarity among the forces in the region.
