Accident bus driver charged with 30 counts of murder, injury

The driver of the bus which was involved in a road accident on May 6, killing eight people and injuring 22 others, appeared in court here yesterday charged with eight counts of murder and 22 counts of reckless driving causing injury to people.
Paulo Segole (48) appeared in the Morogoro Resident Magistrate`s Court.
Prosecutor Nsubisi Mwakisambwe alleged that the accused, on May 6, this year at Makunganya area on the Morogoro - Dodoma road drove a passenger bus recklessly by overtaking a truck.
He alleged that in the process of overtaking the truck the accused crushed onto a lorry head-on, causing deaths to eight people and injuries to 22 others.
The prosecution named the dead as Asha Anas, Nyalamaholo Yvonne, Alex Matius, Elizabert Charles, Francis Mhagama, Saidi Nditi who have already been identified and the bodies collected by relatives for burial, and two male bodies which have not been identified at the Morogoro regional hospital.
Those injured are Haruna Mfaume, Naftali Nzoisava, Maccaire, Owingabile Donard, Anold Kyala, Andrew Steven, David Bakari, Toshwa Steven, Saidi Amiri, Patrick Paulo, Muhando Shadan and Paulo Matiko.
Others are Bakari Mohamed, David Laka, Andrew Msumbwi, Betty Tambwe, Bulahola Shea, Suzan Nyilambula, Rosether Muhoza, Hosea Mwamkombe, Helena Chakila and Deogratius Chechela.
The magistrate, Jafari Mzonge, remanded the accused in custody until May 29, this year when the case will come up for mention.
The accused had disappeared from the scene of the accident until after a few days when he surrendered to the police after learning that his employer was arrested and was being taken to court.
