Over 28 per cent pass NBAA exams

A total of 908 out of 3,210 candidates, who sat for examinations conducted at different levels by the National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA) in May this year have passed their exams.

NBAA Board Chairman, Dr Mussa Assad, announced in Dar es Salaam over the weekend, that the examination pass rate for the May session is 28.4 per cent compared to 22.1 per cent registered in November last year.

Dr Assad said the examination session in May this year was based on the revised syllabi which involved 29 examination papers, nine in the Accounting Technician and 20 in the professional examination schemes.

He said out of 3,210 candidates who sat for the examinations 1,044 were referred and 1,249 failed.

According to the results released by the governing board of NBAA, 184 candidates have qualified for Certified Public Accounts (CPA) (T) professional qualifications.

Some 328 have passed Module F examination, but are yet to complete the examination requirement in Module E. 217 while 154 failed.

``The successful candidates bring the number of CPA holders in the country to 2661 since the board began to conduct examinations in 1975,``said Assad.

He said the number of successful candidates in Module E is 289 out of 1554 who sat for that Module 411 have been referred while 854 failed.

``In intermediate stage, Module D examination, 95 candidates out of 208 have passed, 89 referred and 24 have failed,`` Assad said.

He said the number of successful candidates in Module C is 43 out of 145 who attempted the examination. 57 have been referred and 45 failed.

``In the foundation stage, Module B examination, 39 candidates out of 146 have passed, 61 have been referred and 46 failed,`` he said.

The chairperson said in Module A, 52 out of 140 candidates who attempted the examination passed, 75 referred while 13 failed.

The number of candidates who passed Accounting Technician Level II is 21 out of 164 candidates who attempted, 70 have been referred and 72 have failed.

The results showed that in Accounting Technician Level I, 41 out of 146 candidates who attempted the examination have passed, 64 have been referred, while 41 have failed.

Assad said NBAA is faced with the challenge of increasing the number of accountants in the country.
