Medium and small enterprises (SMEs) have come out as the most effective participants in this year`s Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) compared to big firms.

In an interview at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Trade Fair grounds in the city on Wednesday, Industry, Trade and Marketing deputy minister Cyril Chami said big enterprises had not come out in great numbers at the show this time round.

``Large enterprises are supposed to be role models for small and medium enterprises, but they have not shown up in great numbers compared to small enterprises,`` said Chami.

He challenged big enterprises to enhance their participation in the country\'s grand business showcase to enable the public and other business stakeholders know what was going on in their sectors.

``The public would like to know what is going on in most large-scale enterprises, that is why they visit the DITF. But they usually get disappointed when they don\'t see what they had expected,`` he said.

Chami said that it`s encouraging the number of participants has increased, especially those from foreign countries. A total of 27 countries are represented at this year`s show.

He said that as more foreign countries participate in the exhibition, more Tanzania enterprises need to learn from them to improve skills and gain useful experiences.

Generally, he said, considerable improvement had been made in the area of information and communication technology, which made this year`s show even better compared to previous ones.

Over 27 foreign countries, 9 government ministries, 38 government departments and agencies, 650 local companies as well as 60 petty traders are participating in the annual grand business show.
