Two German-based media outlets started yesterday an aggressive campaign seeking to throw light on the exact location of Africa`s tallest mountain, Kilimanjaro.
Over a period of dozen days, MORGENMAGAZIN in collaboration with the ARD Television would be conducting live broadcasting right from Mount Kilimanjaro to German television viewers, an important source of tourists for Tanzania.
Amant Macha, Director of Marketing at Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) has said during their visit in Tanzania, members of the two media organisations would also be accompanied by a group of eleven German travellers to scale Mount Kilimanjaro.
According to Macha, ARD is one of biggest public television stations in Germany whose services are also broadcasted to Austria, Switzerland and the rest of Europe.
``For the whole week, Kilimanjaro Region and the Mountain will benefit from three live TV transmissions daily, as we target to demystify the true geographical location of Mount Kilimanjaro``, he said.
For so many years, Mount Kilimanjaro has attracted many foreign visitors, especially mountain climbers, researchers, geographers and journalists who have written extensively on the majestic, ice-clad mountain``, he said.
TTB and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism do believe through such tours, tourism in general would be promoted.
In special way, cultural tourism would also experience boosting again, as visitors would be introduced to banana and coffee farming sub-cultures in the region.
Mount Kilimanjaro is the tallest peak in Africa and at a height of 5,895m (19,341 feet); it is also the tallest free standing mountain in the world.
