The Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour, Youth Development and Sports, Wilson Ngowi, has called upon key players and the donor community to address major issues relevant to children, their protection and their future.
He made the appeal in Dar es Salaam yesterday at a ceremony to mark the World Day Against Child Labour.
He said child labour is a multi dimensional and multi sectoral issue, which requires involvement of different stakeholders and organisations to successfully eliminate it .
``Many governments and the international community throughout the world have increasingly focussed their attention on child labour and its worst forms,`` he said.
He revealed that Tanzania was one of the countries leading the way in implementing the Time Bound Programme in eliminating the menace.
The International Labour Organisation (ILO) Tanzania office yesterday joined all communities and children around the world to mark the fourth World Day against Child Labour.
The Day is aimed at promoting a wider cognizance on the negative impact of child labour and raising a global movement for the elimination of child labour, particularly the worst forms.
The theme for this year`s event focused on removing more than one million children who work in mines and quarries, which is one of the worst forms of child labours being targeted.
Meanwhile, in Geneva, Switzerland, where the International Labour Organization`s annual conference took place, the commitment of concerned governments and representatives of workers and employers in the mining industry was lighlighted.
According to ILO estimates, there are nearly 250 million child labourers worldwide, one million of whom work in mining and quarrying, which is considered a Worst Form of Child Labour under ILO Convention No.182.
