’Intrigues, in-fighting affecting Kisarawe’

By Amri Lugungulo PST, Kisarawe

Intrigues and in-fighting amongst Kisarawe leaders are drawbacks against effective service by local experts and consequently retard economic development.

This is the view of the Coast Region Land Advisor, Anthony Beti. It featured in remarks he made at a quarterly meeting of Land, Natural Resources and Environment officers held in Kisarawe recently.

Beti also blamed the leaders for lacking seriousness and commitment. He further cited their lack of creativity in using minerals, forests, game products and communication infrastructures like the Tanzania-Zambia railway line as tools for accelerating the development process.

Beti, who chaired the meeting, told the meeting that drew participants from Mafia, Bagamoyo, Rufiji, Mkuranga, Kibaha rural and urban and Kisarawe districts, that, instead, leaders engaged in gossip and intrigues against experts.

As a consequence, he noted, experts were sacked, demoted or forced to resign.

Citing his own case, he told the audience that in 1982, he prepared compensation payment documents for 280 Kisarawe villagers in good time, but the payments were kept pending until earlier this year.

He lamented that he was unfairly penalized through non-promotion for ten years, as a by-product of intrigues.
Another form of malice, Beti said, was for leaders to seek scapegoats whom they proceeded to persecute, after failing to secure investment funds.

He pointed out if leaders were creative, they would exploit the Sealous game reserve and TAZARA as income generators.

He further blamed them for failing to create an environment for enabling the people of Kisarawe to benefit from forest products, which a handful of businessmen exploited instead.
