Seven die, scores injured in two accidents

Seven people died on the spot and 43 others injured in two motor vehicle accidents in Same and Kiborloni areas near Moshi municipality.
Kilimanjaro Regional Police Commander Dr Mohamed Chicco told reporters yesterday that the first accident just outside Same town led to seven people dying on the spot, on Friday at around 4.30 in the afternoon.
A Coaster bus with registration number T230 AFV heading from Tanga to Arusha left the road after its front tyre burst.
Six of the dead were yet to be identified, while the driver Athanas Rafael also died on the spot; one of the deceased is a woman, he said.
Twenty injured people of whom 13 are men were not identified, and several of them were treated at Same hospital and discharged, he said.
In the other accident, a Toyota Landcruiser with T602 registration driven by a youth, Deogratias Manga (21) ran into a Hiace bus no. T725 AAH driven by a person identified only as Simon.
Both cars were heading from Moshi towards Himo, and the Hiace driver was apparently seeking to overtake the Landcruiser, wherepon he ran into its side and the bus overturned.
There were 23 injured people in that accident, none of whom had been identified, he said, noting that the bodies of deceased people in the first accident were still at Same hospital mortuary.
Those injured in the second accident were rushed to KCMC and the Mawenzi regional hospital, while police are pursuing its investigations into the two accidents.
