By Cynthia Mwilolezi, PST, Monduli

The government has disbursed a total of 190m/- to develop irrigation farming at Selela and Tindigani valley in Mto wa Mbu, Arusha.

This is in line with the government’s policy of developing irrigation farming to relieve the country from the shame of begging food.

Farmers from Selela na Tindigani valley were given training on how to go about irrigation farming before the money was disbursed.

Monduli District Commissioner Antony Malley said the training was aimed at imparting irrigation skills to farmers so that they can produce more and fight poverty.

Malley said although the government has funded the project it was upon the farmers themselves to develop it so that it becomes sustainable and environmental friendly.

’’The government has given out a lot of money to improve infrastructure. This is your project it is upon you to protect it so that it benefits you all,’’ he said.
He called on the farmers to form a committee to supervise the scheme.
