More than 130,000 people have benefitted from the services of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) offered at the Fund’s registered service stations located countrywide since its inception about six years ago.

The Fund’s Director of Finance and Administration, Anne Mbughuni, says the beneficiaries include members of the health insurance scheme and their dependants.

She was speaking in a training workshop here yesterday on computer literacy in preparation of demand notes.

According to Mbughuni, the number of those who received the health services through the NIHF represented only 4.8 per cent of the country’s population.

This, she pointed out, implied that most people had yet to know about or acknowledge the importance of the Fund and the insurance scheme.

To reverse the trend, she said, efforts are being re-directed towards persuading other potential stakeholders in the community like retired people to join the Fund, with the aim of covering about 15 per cent of the population by year 2015.

More than 70 service attendants from Iramba, Manyoni, Singida-rural and in Singida Municipality attended the workshop which ended yesterday.
