GEMSAT picks office bearers

The Gender and Media Southern Africa -Tanzania Network (GEMSAT) has elected its Chairperson, Secretary General, Treasurer and two board members to serve for two years.

The elected include Rose Haji, who is becoming the first chairperson of the organization that is promoting gender in the media in southern African region.

Rose Haji is also the National Director of MISA-Tanzania and one of the founder-member of the network in the region.

The secretary general’s post went to Charles Kayoka, researcher, lecturers and gender activist.

MISA-TAN cashier, Cecilia Mng’ong’o has been elected a treasurer of the organization. Other members include Saida Mukhi Msumi of DTV/Channel Ten and Marko Gideon of MISA-TAN.

The leadership was elected during the first GEMSAT Annual General Confrence held at MISA-Tanzania office on yesterday.

GEMSA was pioneered in 2003 by MISA in collaboration with Gender Links to champion the promotion of gender issues in the media in the SADC region.
