By Correspondent Michael Haonga

A five-day journalists conference ended in Dar es Salaam yesterday, with special praise showered upon the facilitators.

The conference, drawing participants from over 15 African countries, dwelt on a wide range of issues, including corruption, gender balance, HIV/AIDS and poverty alleviation.

The commendation came from Stephen Rweikiza, a veteran journalist and Chairman of the Christian Union of the Press, the host NGO.

In an interview with the Sunday Observer, at the end of their familiarization tour of the IPP Media outlets at Mikocheni in Dar es Salaam, Rweikiza underlined the importance of journalists being far-sighted and conversant with latest developments in the world.

The pros and cons of globlization should be some of the components to that end, he pointed out.

Rweikiza underscored the importance by journalists to consistently endeavour to broaden their horizon, noting that the just-ended conference was geared to that end.

The Christian Union of the Press Chairman paid glowing tribute to the Executive Chairman of the IPP, Reginald Mengi, for his immense contribution in the promotion of the local media.

He further commended him for the paper on corruption an alarming social malaise that he presented at the conference.
The IPP Media hosted a dinner for the conference participants at a city hotel last night.
