When drug dealers do the unbelievable to achieve their goal

As the year comes to an end, the country is still battling with drug trafficking. Throughout the year we had several cases of people caught trafficking drugs.
So many pledges to eradicate the problem were made but it appears they did not bear any fruit. The pledges were not transformed into action as proven by last week\s incident in Mbeya.
Even our honourable CCM Special seats MP, Amina Chifupa, who had raised our hope as far as the war against drug trafficking is concerned has since lets us down.
I had so much hope in her, she vowed to expose all drug lords in spite of their influence but up to now nothing has come out of that statement.
The issue seems to have died a natural death. It was so hot to the extent that people thought that her life was in danger but all of a sudden she just went silent about the issue and now she is busy with other issues. Could it be she was threatened by the so called drug lords? Heaven knows.
The war against drugs is far from being won considering what happened last week. I didn\t know that people could be so daring to the extent of swallowing pellets of cocaine just for the money that drug dealing brings.
A man lost his life when one of the pellets that he had swallowed burst in his stomach resulting in an overdose which took his life.
Even after his death, his partners in crime still had the audacity to continue the ordeal.
They wanted to bring the body into the country so that they could go ahead and open the corpse to get their drugs and sell them. Thats the drug lords for you, they will not stop at anything as long as they can get the money that they so much desire.
They have lost even respect for the dead as long as they can get money.
Surely, our society is reeking with rot. Drug peddling is the greatest challenge that our country is facing. Imagine how embarrassing it is to the country. What kind of people do other nations think we are?
Worse still, an Immigration officer who is supposed to be safeguarding the country is also involved in the scum. Where are we heading to if the law enforcers are actually the one taking the lead in breaking those very laws which they should be protecting?
This serves to show the tough job that we have aheard of us.
As we make resolutions for the coming year, fighting against drug trafficking should top the list. It is actually the biggest challenge that we have. In fact, that and armed robbery.
It is a pity to note that drug dealing involves filthy rich people that it was it is even more difficult to harness the problem because they will always pay for their freedom.
In most cases, these rich fellows use poor people to do the dirty and risky work. For instance, in this recent case, it is the poor man who had to swallow the pellets and it is him who died whilst the rich guys remained to enjoy the fruits of the ordeal.
If only we had quite a number of courageous people like the ones who alerted police about what the corpse was carrying, then the war against drug trafficking would soon come to an end.
Drug dealers are well known for being vicious to the extent that they do not hesitate to kill anyone who stands in their way.
Therefore there is need to applaud the individuals who alerted the police for their courage for they really risked their lives.
As demonstrated in Mbeya, the participation of members of the public makes a big difference between winning and losing the fight against drug peddling.
This is indeed one of the best examples of partnership between the police and the public in law enforcement, which is particularly effective in fighting against drug trafficking.
This should come as a wake up call to both the public and the police force and serve as a reminder that smuggling and illegal use of drugs remains a huge socio-economic challenge calling for urgent decisive action.
The war is far from won and there is need to tighten up belts in a bid to put the matter to rest once and for all.
The extent to which drug dealers go in search of money are quite unbelievable. They are so daring and they dont care who gets hurt or killed. All they care about is the money that they realise from the sales.
Let us desist from merely talking about the problem and set out to do something tangible to stop the problem. The example of the courageous individuals from Mbeya should act as a challenge to all of us. If we put a united front against this problem, we will surely register success. Let this be our goal for the coming year.
