More than fifty orphans from two orphanage centres in Dar es Salaam were recently given gifts to celebrate Christmas and the advent of the New Year.

The gifts were donated by the New Africa Hotel in Dar es Salam as part of their annual programme to cheer up the disadvantaged, needy children.

Speaking to the Sunday Observer, the hotel’s Assistant Sales Manager, Adeline Kailembo, said the company felt socially obliged to share part of its profit with orphans and other disadvantaged members of the community.

The orphans, drawn from three orphanage centres Mother Teresa House of Peace and Joy, and Bright Future of Mburahati and Tabata were given foodstuff, toys and stationery.

Earlier, the orphans staged shows and held singing and dancing competitions. Winners were awarded special gifts.

Sister Joseph Catherine and Grace Bomani, caretakers from Mother Teresa and Bright Future orphanage centres respectively, thanked their hosts for organising the humanitarian event.

’’Events such as these encourage us in our efforts to take care of these very needy children’’ said a joyful Bomani.

The centres cater for more than 750 orphans . Fifty six are attached to Mother Teresa and the rest from the Bright Future centres.
