The government has been urged to create conducive working conditions for Tanzanians if it is really determined to use its citizens skills in eradicating poverty.
The call was made this week by the Chairman of Home and Care for Aged and Orphans Trust Fund (HOCAO), Emmanuel Makelemo.
He said at present the country is training many people but not benefiting from them because of poor working conditions, prompting some of them to seek work elsewhere, where the conditions are better.
A big percentage of people engaged in engineering sector and doctors and other fields prefer to work overseas where good working conditions prevail, he said.
According to Makelemo, the country cannot eradicate poverty if the government does not use its own expertise, adding that the government and private institutions invest a lot of funds to educate them but it is sad that their skills are not appreciated.
He added that foreigners who are imported because of their skills come over to benefit themselves and not the country.
If well organised, Tanzanians can be used to develop our country and eradicate poverty, he said.
Makelemo said that after discovering that a lot of orphans with potential are not taken to school by their guardians, he established a school at Mikocheni A in order to educate them so that they can contribute to the development of the country.
He said that currently he is educating some 36 orphans, four of whom are being trained at a vocational training centre to enable them become resourceful adults in the future.
Currently I am building a high school at Mbezi where I intend to enrol many orphans who will be able to support themselves in future, he said.
According to him, HOCAOs major objectives include improving quality of life and opportunities available to the aged and orphans, and checking the rapid spread of HIV/Aids through provision of education.
