Corrupt Tanesco staff get warning

By Renatus Masuguliko, PST, Mwanza

The Deputy Minister for Energy and Minerals, Wiliam Ngeleja, has lashed out at dishonest and corrupt workers of the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco).

Addressing a public rally in Mwanza recently to mark the end of his seven-day working tour, Ngeleja called for co-operation between his office and the general public to help identify corrupt elements within Tanesco.

While in Sengerema the deputy minister received complaints from residents who had made all the basic payments for power installation to their houses, but to no avail.

One of them lamented that he had fulfilled his part of the bargain two years ago, but Tanesco had not responded.

This, he said was the general trend to which many other electric power seekers were victim.

Another resident claimed that some workers of the national power utility firm demanded bribes to grant the genuine applications of potential clients.

Ngeleja said such corrupt elements should be exposed.
``I call upon all people with similar complaints to communicate wathe whole country, `` the deputy minister said.
