Kenyans for CDF Open golf tourney

Nine Kenyans are among foreign golfers participating in an annual Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) Open golf tournament which began yesterday at the Lugalo T.P.D.F golf course.
TPDF`s Golf Captain, Joseph Kitani said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the tournament involving 18-hole stroke play is open for both men and women. He said the tournament would also feature Ugandans who are yet to arrive.
Kitani said foreigners would start to play today after the locals` meet. He named the participating Kenyans as Anthony Njoroge, Dick Omondi, Wambughu Waghichohi, Victor Onyango, Peter Muchiri, Martin Ombura, Walui Mwangi, Jesse Mwangi and Tonny Mwangi.
Local golfers have been drawn from ten regional clubs which are Moshi, Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, Mwanza and Iringa.
The TPDF spokesman said that the local clubs which have confirmed participation are the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana club, Moshi`s TPC, Moshi club, Morogoro golf club, Botogwa club of Mwanza, Arusha`s Gymkhana club and the hosts Lugalo T.P.D.F golf club.
Kitani said the tournament has been organised to bid farewell the Chief of Defense Force, General George Waitara as well as cerebrating 43rd anniversary of the army and to introduce the annual golf event at the TPDF golf course.
He said the tournament will be closed by the Deputy Minister for Culture, Information and Sports, Joel Bendera in a special ceremony to be held this afternoon.
The TPDF golf course boss said the tournament is set to be played in four categories of Men`s, Ladies, Boys and Girls who will be competing in the 18-hole Stroke play event.
Kitani named the sponsors of the two-days long event as the Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL), Coca Cola Kwanza, Vodacom Tanzania Limited, Impact promotions Limited and KJ Traders.
