By Joshua Joel, PST, Sumbawanga

Rukwa region has received more than 976m/- for the development of secondary school education this financial year, Acting Rukwa Regional Commissioner Bahati Matala told the press here yesterday.

Matala said the money would be used in the construction of classrooms, libraries, laboratories, staff houses and a dormitory for girls, adding that 259m/- would be spent on building 37 classrooms and 630m/- on 70 staff houses.

A 22m/- worth dormitory would be built at Mwese Secondary School in Mpanda District while 56m/- would be used to build four laboratories and 9m/- on a library.

The regional commissioner appealed to residents in the region to take part in contributing towards the development of education against their background of backwardness, adding that during this fiscal year a total of 18 secondary schools would be opened to add to the existing number of 77 schools.
