The newly built Mkapa Bridge linking Dar es Salaam and the South along River Rufiji in Coast Region was undergoing repairs recently after developing cracks in some parts.

Engineer George Mutabazi of the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) in the region said during a one-day regional road board meeting that the repairs on the bridge have been completed.

The bridge was inaugurated a few years ago after some 31bn/- was used to construct it and repairs worth 116.325m/- started during the 2006/07 financial year.

Engineer Mutabuzi also said that construction of a new Ruvu bridge undertaken by contractor M/S Chicco along Morogoro road in Bagamoyo district, in the region was going on well under the supervision and consultant engineer M/S Norplan at a cost of 4.4bn/-.

The project is expected to be completed in 18 months, and currently the job is continuing at 28 percent.

The contractor has been paid 1,494m/-. Some of the regional road members in the meeting advised the agency to install electric light at the bridge and Wami Bridge along Chalinze/Segera road in Bagamoyo district.
