Many marriages will survive the run to the cliff if the government`s Department of Social Welfare is counsel-friendly, analysts are saying, stressing that if anything at all the department is only for offering advice.

They also contend that the government should now seriously turn into training counselors who will work in the department because their absence is seriously pinching now.

``The environment at all Social Welfare offices in the country is not conducive for counseling.

Counseling needs confidentiality which is lacking at the offices,`` said a government source.

The essential requirements for a counseling facility include a spacious room, furniture that complies with counseling, specific cabins to keep counseling materials, entertainment to reduce tempo in case of a breakdown, professionally and ethically trained personnel to administer counseling, follow-up counseling system and confidentiality.
