Youths from 47 primary and 15 secondary schools in 34 wards in Iringa region will be reached in a special programme aimed at imparting life skills against the dreaded HIV/Aids.
Eighty-two volunteers from different countries and Tanzania will be deployed in the programme for the region that is leading in the prevalence of HIV in the country followed by its neighbours Mbeya and Morogoro regions, and Dar es Salaam.
Launching the programme here recently, Iringa Regional Commissioner Amina Mrisho Said asked for government cooperation with civil society organisations dealing with HIV/Aids, especially when youths are involved.
Meanwhile, Lucas Raphael reports from Tabora that the spread of HIV/Aids in Tabora region has dropped from 7.2 to 4.6 percent, according to Acting Tabora Regional Commissioner, Yohana Balele who attributes the drop to a major awareness campaign by various civil and government organizations.
