Squeezed budget incites corruption

2008-03-02 09:55:43
By Dege Masoli, PST, Pangani.

Endless land disputes are a result of double allocation of surveyed area under the influence of corruption and squeezed budgets in Land Departments at district levels.

In order to curb these anomalies district authorities should allocate sufficient funds for land survey projects, Tanga Assistant Regional Administrative Secretary Monica Kinala has appealed.

Kinala was addressing participants to a two-day training workshop in Pangani yesterday.

She said the department of Lands was given less importance in the district councils` budgeting system, adding the trend should be reversed to comfort the residents.

Pangani District Executive Director Neneka Rashidi said the best way to spare Lands Department from constant criticism was allocation of funds to ensure that proper survey and documentation was accomplished.

``Let all land officers employ professionalism and district council issue enough funds to enhance implementation of all plans that include setting aside places for investment near residential and industrialized areas,`` Rashidi explained.
