Dar harambee supports Bagamoyo education

Education backward Bagamoyo District in the north of Dar es Salaam City is about to undergo a U-turn following financial contributions towards building schools.

About 984m/- was raised in Dar es Salaam on Friday night and more is expected to come, according to Subbash Patel, chairperson of Bagamoyo Fundraising Committee, who presented the contributions to President Jakaya Kikwete, guest of honour.

At the event on Friday President Kikwete had personally donated 1.5m/- towards the construction of schools in his home district while First Lady Salma Kikwete contributed 1m/-.

The amount contributed is estimated to put up 90 classes with a deficit of 60 classes needed this year.

President Kikwete underscored the need for people to step up support for education which was pivotal to success in various undertakings for socio-economic development.
