Dr Judith Kahama, Chief Medical Officer of Dar es Salaam City Council, believes the fight against diabetes, tuberculosis, cancer and HIV/Aids can easily be won if government works closely with civil society organisations.

She says civil society organisations should be encouraged to offer health services to as many people as possible.

Dr. Kahama remarked this when closing a month-long training workshop for health officials visiting homes to dispense health awareness.

``The City Council in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare will help NGOs to boost health delivery to the public, thereby stamping out diseases in the country,`` she is reported to have told the officials.

``The home based care service enables patients to express their feelings freely in front of their relatives without any problem,`` an official from a non-government organisation said.

Stella Millinga, Kinondoni Municipal Nursing Officer and one of the participants, appeals for continued government funding of such training courses because she says they are vital for health officials to deliver smooth home based care.
